Editor’s note
The VANGUARD PRO 96 is the Hall effect version of Corsair's 96% board, and the magnetic switches change what the keyboard can do rather than just how it feels. Because the sensor reads how far a key has travelled instead of whether a contact closed, you can set the actuation point yourself — anywhere from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm.
Read Corsair's own footnote on that, though. They recommend staying between 0.3 mm and 3.6 mm, and warn that going outside it hurts consistency. The headline 0.1 mm figure is real but it is not the setting they suggest you actually use, which is a more honest position than most brands take.
Rapid trigger is the feature that follows from the same technology: the key resets the instant you start lifting it, rather than waiting to travel back to a fixed point. For counter-strafing and rapid repeated taps, the difference is genuinely felt. Corsair also includes FlashTap SOCD handling, which decides what happens when you hold opposing direction keys at once — useful, but check your game's and your league's rules, because some competitive formats restrict it.
The rest is the same well-made board as its mechanical sibling: sculpted aluminium frame, quad-layer sound dampening, 8,000 Hz polling, an LCD screen, a rotary dial, six G-keys and a magnetic wrist rest. The magnetic switches are hot-swappable too, which is rarer on Hall effect boards than on mechanical ones.
One gap worth naming: despite the analogue sensor underneath, Corsair does not advertise analogue or joystick-style input, so if you want gradual movement control in racing or flight titles, this is not the board for it.
Buy it for competitive shooters where actuation tuning matters. Skip it if you want analogue input, or if a fixed mechanical switch already suits you.
