Editor’s note

Pet-specific appliances are usually marketing, but this one has a real mechanical answer to the actual problem. Hair and dander clog a purifier's pre-filter faster than anything else, and on most units – including Levoit's own Core models – that pre-filter is bonded into the disposable cartridge, so shedding effectively shortens the life of a sixty-dollar filter. The Vital Pet Pro separates them. Its pre-filter is cleaned automatically by the unit and washed by hand monthly rather than replaced. Over a couple of years with a shedding animal, that is the difference that pays for the machine.

Performance is mid-range: 148 CFM of clean air delivery across 229 square feet on the AHAM 4.8-air-changes basis. Levoit advertises 1,100 square feet, which uses the one-air-change convention and is not a number to plan around. There is a genuine air-quality sensor and Auto mode, and it is very quiet at the bottom of its range, rated at 21 dB.

What frustrates me is how little Levoit publishes. There is no maximum noise figure and no power consumption anywhere in the maker's material, so two of the things I would most want to compare against rivals simply do not exist on paper. Those fields are left empty here rather than filled in from a retailer's guess.

The rest is standard Levoit: HEPA-grade rather than certified True HEPA, a VeSync account for scheduling and air-quality history, and voice assistant support.

This makes sense in a room a dog or cat actually lives in – a lounge, a utility room, a bedroom if the animal sleeps there. Without pets you are paying for a mechanism you will never benefit from, and the standard Vital 200S covers more floor area for less money.

How the VS Score works — and what it can’t tell you

Every measurable spec is scored against the average of all the Air Purifiers we track: matching the class average scores 50, clearly beating it climbs towards 100, and each spec counts according to an editorial weight that reflects real-world impact — a battery-capacity gap moves the score far more than a colour-options list. The quality bars on the spec cards above show where this model sits inside the full range for its class, and the overall VS Score rolls every weighted result into one number.

Unknown values are never estimated. A spec this product doesn’t report simply drops out of its scoring — it isn’t penalised with a guess — but a thinner spec sheet does mean a score built on fewer data points, which is why completeness is disclosed under About this data.

Most importantly: a spec-sheet lead is not the same as a better product. Megapixels, gigahertz and benchmark points describe capacity, not experience — image processing, software optimisation, thermals, haptics and ergonomics decide how a device actually feels, and no table captures reliability or long-term support quality. Treat the VS Score as a structured summary of what can be measured, not a substitute for your own priorities.

About this data

  • Specifications are compiled from each manufacturer’s official spec sheet, cross-checked against trusted specification databases, and normalised into one schema so identical things are compared identically.
  • Specifications last verified August 18, 2026.
  • Data completeness: 19 of the 22 specs in this category are verified (86%). Anything we could not verify is shown as Unknown — never estimated — and is excluded from the score.
  • Prices and availability come from live retailer feeds via our shopping partners and refresh throughout the day; a missing price means no partner currently lists the product, not that it is discontinued.
  • Want the full picture? Our editorial guidelines explain how we research products, weight the scores and stay independent.

The bottom line

The Levoit Vital Pet Pro earns a VS Score of 42, trailing most of the 32 air purifiers we compare here, at least on the spec sheet.

Who it’s for
Households with a shedding cat or dog, in the room the animal actually spends its time – the self-cleaning washable pre-filter is the whole point of the model.
Who should look elsewhere
Pet-free homes, which pay for a mechanism they will never use, and anyone who needs published power and noise figures to compare, because Levoit supplies neither.
The trade-off that matters
A pre-filter you never replace, against a manufacturer that publishes unusually little – no wattage, no maximum noise – so it is hard to judge on paper.
The main alternative
Levoit Vital 200S-P shares the washable pre-filter design and covers more floor area, and is better value if pet hair is a factor but not the main one.

The VS Score is generated automatically from the weighted specifications above, measured against all other air purifiers in our database. Treat it as a shortlisting guide — not a substitute for your own priorities.
