Editor’s note
The Vital 200S sits between Levoit's small Core units and the 600S, and the detail that separates it from the Core line is the washable pre-filter. On the Core models the pre-filter is bonded into the same cartridge as the HEPA and carbon layers, so pet hair and dust clog a part you cannot clean and you end up buying the whole thing again. Here you pull the pre-filter out and wash it. If you have a shedding animal, that difference alone is the reason to shop this side of the range.
The rest is sensible rather than exciting. It delivers 250 CFM of clean air across an honest 388 square feet on the AHAM 4.8-air-changes basis. Levoit's marketing quotes 1,862 square feet, which assumes a single air change an hour and should be ignored. It has a real air-quality sensor and a working Auto mode, neither of which the cheaper Core 300S and 200S offer, and it is quiet at the bottom of its range at 23 dB.
The caveats apply across Levoit's current line. The filter is described as HEPA-grade rather than True HEPA. The app, scheduling and air-quality history need a VeSync account, and the unit is noticeably less useful without one, since you lose the history that tells you whether it is achieving anything.
At 50 watts it is not especially efficient for its output. The larger 600S moves considerably more air on less power, which is worth checking against the price gap wherever you are shopping.
I would put this in a medium bedroom or a home office with an animal in it. For a bigger room, the arithmetic pushes you up to the 600S faster than the model numbers suggest.
