Levoit Vital 100S-P: Specs, Price, Pros & Cons

The number printed biggest on the Vital 100S-P's page is 1,066 square feet, and it describes one air change an hour. Levoit prints the smaller figure in the same line: the room it can clean at the rate allergy guidance asks for is about a fifth of the headline. This is a bedroom or home-office purifier, and anyone shopping for an open-plan living area should read the coverage row below before anything else.

The -P marks Levoit's pet-focused revision of the Vital 100S. The body is a slim rectangle that sits against a wall, with a wide U-shaped intake along the base and one side, which Levoit shaped to pull in floating fur before it reaches the main filter. A washable pre-filter takes the hair, and in a house with a shedding dog that part does more daily work than anything else on the sheet.

The features that earn their place are the infrared dust sensor, which drives Auto Mode, and the light sensor, which dims the display and slows the fan once the room goes dark. The VeSync app adds schedules, a filter-life readout and Alexa or Google Assistant control. You can ignore the app entirely: the control panel handles the everyday modes, the timer and the display lock.

What it gives up is filter clarity. Levoit never calls the main filter True HEPA, and it describes it as HEPA-grade in Sleep Mode only, citing an independent lab it does not name. The carbon layer is combined with the particle filter, so the whole cartridge goes in the bin at once. Priced in the lower middle of Levoit's range, it makes sense as a bedroom unit for pet owners and less sense for smoke or cooking smells.

How this VS Score was computed

Score 46: each known spec is measured against the median of all air purifiers (41 products), then weighted; 50 means level with that median. In classes of six or more, a value beyond the class’s 10th–90th percentile range counts as that limit, so one extreme product cannot set the scale. 77% of the scoreable weight could be used; unknown values, features not applicable to this class and proxies (battery capacity where a rated life exists) add or remove nothing.

Editor’s note

The filter is where I would spend my attention before buying. One cartridge holds the particle layer and the carbon, Levoit expects the check-filter light after about nine months, and the app's countdown assumes twelve hours of use a day. Run it around the clock in a house with two cats and that interval shortens. Levoit also sells three alternative cartridges for this model, aimed at pet allergens, smoke and household chemicals, which helps if odor is the real complaint.

Noise is the other reason this belongs in a bedroom. Levoit rates the quietest setting at 23 dB, and Sleep Mode plus the light sensor mean you are not choosing between clean air and a dark, quiet room. The top speed is another matter at 52 dB, loud enough that it is best left to Auto Mode to decide when to use it.

Against Levoit's own Core 300, the case for the Vital is the app, the dust sensor and the flat shape that tucks against a wall. The Core 300 cleans in the same class and costs less, so if you never plan to open an app, I would hesitate. Against the Vital 200S the question is room size: the bigger model moves far more air, and the price gap is small enough that anyone with a living room in mind should step up.

The buyers who end up disappointed are mostly the ones who trusted the box. Put it in a large lounge and it will run loud and still fall short. Smokers and anyone dealing with wildfire smoke should look for a heavier carbon bed than one combined layer can offer.

For a bedroom, a nursery or a home office with a pet in it, it is well judged. The pre-filter catches hair where it arrives, and the controls stay out of your way at night.

The bottom line

The Levoit Vital 100S-P earns a VS Score of 46, below the median of the 41 air purifiers it is measured against (a score of 50 is level with that median).

Who it’s for
A pet owner who wants a quiet, app-controlled purifier for a bedroom or home office and would rather catch shed fur at the intake than vacuum it off the floor later.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone buying for a large living room on the strength of the box, or for heavy smoke and cooking smells, where one combined carbon layer is a light answer. Look at a bigger unit with a dedicated carbon filter.
The trade-off that matters
The flat, wall-hugging body and the smart features come in a small cleaning class, so it covers one room well and nothing beyond it.
The main alternative
Levoit Core 300: the same cleaning class without the app, for less money, if physical buttons are all you want.
