Dreame L40 Ultra: Specs, Features, Pros & Cons
Dreame's mid-flagship carries most of the expensive features at a noticeably lower price, and the headline one is automatic mop removal: the dock detaches the pads before the machine goes to vacuum carpet, so the carpet stays dry.
That is the cleanest answer to the mixed-floor problem and it is normally reserved for the tier above. Add automatic detergent dosing, hot pad washing, dirt detection that re-mops a patch and an extending edge arm, and the feature list reads like a flagship's. Suction is where the saving was made.

Editor’s note
The L40 Ultra is Dreame's mid-flagship, and it carries most of the expensive features at a noticeably lower price.
Automatic mop removal is the headline: the dock detaches the pads before the machine goes to vacuum carpet, so the carpet stays dry — the cleanest solution to the mixed-floor problem, and normally reserved for the tier above. Add automatic detergent dosing, pad washing at 65°C, dirt detection that re-mops a dirty patch, and an extending edge arm for corners, and the feature list reads like a flagship's.
Suction is 11,000 Pa through a TriCut anti-tangle rubber brush, with a 10.5 mm mop lift and 194 minutes from a 5,200 mAh battery. The pads are removable, the filter washable, and the bin holds 300 ml.
Two compromises mark where the money was saved. Navigation is a fixed LDS LiDAR turret, with a camera and structured light for obstacles and an LED light Dreame says lets it navigate in the dark. And at 103.8 mm it is among the taller machines here, so low furniture is out — measure before ordering.
Threshold clearance is 22 mm, so raised door saddles will still stop it, and no HEPA filter is listed.
Buy it if you want automatic mop removal and a self-servicing dock without paying flagship money, at a mid-range price. Buy the X50 Ultra if you need the climbing and the hotter wash.

The bottom line
The Dreame L40 Ultra earns a VS Score of 50, a solid mid-pack result among the 57 robot vacuums we compare here. It stands out for automatic mop removal, a mop function and dirt detection & re-mop. Just be aware of much weaker suction and fewer multi-floor maps before you buy. Weigh those trade-offs against what matters most to you.
