Dreame X40 Ultra: Specs, Features, Pros & Cons

This machine introduced the feature that has since spread across the category, and it is worth understanding what automatic mop removal actually solves. Every robot that both vacuums and mops has to deal with wet pads meeting carpet; lifting them helps but does not fully solve it on anything with pile.

Here the pads detach entirely at the dock before the machine goes to vacuum carpet, then reattach afterwards. In a home with both surfaces it remains the cleanest answer available, and the rest of the specification is built to match.

Editor’s note

The X40 Ultra introduced the feature that has since spread across the category, and it is worth understanding what automatic mop removal actually solves.

Every robot that vacuums and mops has to deal with wet pads meeting carpet. Lifting them a centimetre helps but does not fully solve it on anything with pile. This machine detaches the pads entirely at the dock before going to vacuum carpet, then reattaches them — so the carpet stays dry and the vacuuming happens without a mop dangling underneath. In a home with both surfaces it is the cleanest answer available.

Around it is a strong specification: 12,000 Pa of suction, 22 mm of threshold clearance — above the 19 mm standard, enough for most door saddles — a liftable main brush, an extending edge arm, dirt detection, automatic detergent dosing, and pad washing at 70°C. Runtime is 260 minutes from a 6,400 mAh battery, among the longest here.

At 97 mm it clears more furniture than the 105 mm machines, and the pads are removable for hand washing.

Navigation is LiDAR with obstacle avoidance, so night running is reliable. There is no HEPA filter listed.

Buy it if your home mixes carpet and hard floor and you want the mopping genuinely kept off the carpet. Buy a 38 mm-clearance machine instead if raised thresholds, rather than carpet, are what stops your current robot.

The bottom line

The Dreame X40 Ultra earns a VS Score of 52, a solid mid-pack result among the 57 robot vacuums we compare here. It stands out for automatic mop removal, a mop function and dirt detection & re-mop. Just be aware of weaker suction and a much smaller water tank before you buy. Weigh those trade-offs against what matters most to you.

The VS Score is calculated from the weighted specifications above, compared with every other robot vacuum we track — a shortlisting guide, not a substitute for your own priorities. See how we score.
