20 facts in comparison
On the 4.8 air-change basis the Dreo 338S suits a bedroom or home office of about 178 square feet, close to three times the space Shark rates the BreatheClear Compact Pro for. Both are app-connected purifiers with sensors and auto modes, but the Shark is a nursery or desk-corner machine, and the figure on its box, several times larger, is the wrong number to plan a room around.
At night the Dreo goes down to 18 dB in sleep mode, close to silent. Shark lists no decibel figure for the Compact Pro, so a light sleeper who needs a number before buying will end up with the Dreo.
The Shark's main filter is rated for six years behind a washable pre-filter, which makes the purchase price most of what the machine will ever cost. It is sold on a capture rate and carries no rated HEPA class, a point allergy buyers will want to weigh. The 338S pairs a True HEPA layer with activated carbon and has a reminder that lights when the filter is due.
The Shark reacts to VOCs and odors as well as particles, turns itself down at night on a light sensor, and shows its reading on a round display you can read from across a room. The 338S answers with voice control, so it can be switched or scheduled without picking up a phone.
Six fan speeds and a timer cover a bedroom's needs on the 338S, and the app is good enough to justify the S over the plain 338. Dreo quotes 115 CFM, which it calls a CADR, and its 856 square foot box claim is a one-air-change number that misleads anyone furnishing a living room. Dreo gives no filter interval, wattage or weight, so price a replacement filter before you commit.
A long filter life stops a cheap purifier from becoming an expensive one, and sensing that reacts to cooking smells and darkness makes the Compact Pro a machine you stop touching. For its tiny brief it is the more thoughtful design of the two, and I'd choose it for a nursery on those grounds alone.

Pick the 338S for nearly any adult bedroom or home office, because it can clean a room of ordinary size and its low floor suits a sleeper.
The Compact Pro earns its place in a nursery or a small study of about 62 square feet. There, its odor and light sensing and its long filter interval suit a parent who wants to buy once and stop thinking about consumables. Stretched across a larger room it runs flat out without keeping pace.
