Logitech M720 Triathlon: Specs, Features, Pros & Cons

Named for the fact that it works with three computers, and switching between them is the entire point. A button under the thumb cycles through three paired machines — a desktop, a laptop, a tablet — with the cursor appearing on whichever you picked.

Anyone who works across more than one computer will recognise how much friction that removes compared with unplugging a receiver or re-pairing Bluetooth. Read the sensor and weight figures below in that light: this was never trying to win those columns.

How this VS Score was computed

Score 35: each known spec is measured against the median of all mice (80 products, medians winsorised to the 10th–90th percentile), then weighted. 45% of the scoreable weight could be used; unknown values, features not applicable to this class and proxies (battery capacity where a rated life exists) add or remove nothing.

Editor’s note

The M720 Triathlon is named for the fact that it works with three computers, and switching between them is what it is for.

A button under the thumb cycles between three paired machines — a desktop, a laptop and a tablet, say — with the cursor appearing on whichever you selected. Anyone who works across more than one computer will recognise how much friction that removes compared with unplugging a receiver or re-pairing Bluetooth.

The scroll wheel free-spins, so a long document or spreadsheet flies past in a single flick and then locks for precise scrolling, and the wheel also tilts for horizontal movement — the two features that most separate a working mouse from a gaming one. There are eight buttons in a right-handed palm-grip shape.

It runs on a replaceable battery rather than a built-in cell, which means nothing degrades over the years and a dead mouse is solved with an AA rather than a cable.

At 134.8 g it is the heaviest conventional mouse here, and the sensor tops out at 1,000 DPI. Both are irrelevant for office work and rule it out entirely for gaming — this is not a mouse to aim with.

Buy it if you work across several machines and want one comfortable mouse for all of them. Buy something else for games, and consider a vertical mouse instead if the reason you are shopping is wrist discomfort.

The bottom line

The Logitech M720 Triathlon earns a VS Score of 35, trailing most of the 80 mice we compare here, at least on the spec sheet. It stands out for horizontal scrolling, free-spin scroll wheel and more buttons. Just be aware of a much lower max sensitivity and a much heavier build before you buy. Weigh those trade-offs against what matters most to you.

The VS Score is calculated from the weighted specifications above, compared with every other mouse we track — a shortlisting guide, not a substitute for your own priorities. See how we score.
