Editor’s note
The V1 is Keychron's answer to a fair question: does a custom mechanical keyboard have to cost a fortune? It runs the same QMK and VIA firmware as their aluminium Q boards, takes the same hot-swappable three- and five-pin switches, and wears the same double-shot PBT keycaps — for roughly a quarter of the money.
The savings are in the case. This is ABS plastic rather than milled aluminium, and the internals use a tray mount, where the plate screws to posts in the bottom shell. Tray mounts are firmer and less uniform across the board than the gasket mounts on pricier keyboards; the middle of the space bar row feels softer than the corners. Plenty of people never notice. If you have typed on a gasket board, you will.
What you do get is the whole point of a custom keyboard: every key remappable, macros stored in the keyboard rather than in background software, a steel plate, screw-in stabilisers and south-facing RGB that lights the legends properly instead of glaring past them. At 970 grams it is also light enough to move around, which the aluminium boards are not.
The 75% layout keeps the function row and the arrow keys while dropping the number pad — the sweet spot for most people who are not accountants.
Two limits worth knowing: polling is 1,000 Hz, and it is wired only. Neither matters much for typing; both matter if you play competitively.
Buy it as a first proper custom keyboard, or as a cheap way into QMK. Skip it if you want wireless or the most uniform typing feel.

Most importantly: a spec-sheet lead is not the same as a better product. Megapixels, gigahertz and benchmark points describe capacity, not experience — image processing, software optimisation, thermals, haptics and ergonomics decide how a device actually feels, and no table captures reliability or long-term support quality.
