The hardware picks are sensible. ClearView Pro LiDAR maps quickly and accurately (about nine minutes for a typical floor, with up to five stored maps), PrecisionVision camera AI dodges cords, shoes and pet waste, and the dual rubber brushes remain the best answer to long hair I know of in this category — there is a reason every rival now imitates them. Carpet Boost raises suction automatically on rugs, and the self-empty dock's sealed bags hold about 90 days of debris, which matters if allergies are the reason you are buying a robot in the first place.
What you give up is equally clear. There is no mop of any kind — this is deliberately not a combo — and iRobot is vague about numbers rivals shout about: runtime and bin volume are not published, and the 30,000Pa suction figure appears only on the retail listing. The app is polished and the LFP battery should age well, but feature-for-feature a Chinese flagship at this price does more on paper.
For me the 715 makes sense in a carpet-heavy home with pets, for someone who wants cleaning handled without studying a settings screen, and who values a brand with long parts availability. It makes less sense for hard-floor homes — half the point of a robot there is mopping, which this cannot do at all — or for anyone who reads spec sheets for sport. At $699.99 you are paying a modest iRobot premium for polish and simplicity; whether that trade reads as sensible or stubborn depends entirely on which camp you are in.
