Editor’s note

The Dell S2725DC is the QHD sibling of Dell's 4K S-series, and for a lot of people it is the smarter buy of the two. Dropping from 4K to 2560×1440 makes the panel far easier to drive — a mid-range GPU can push 144Hz comfortably — while 27 inches at 1440p still looks crisp at a normal desk distance.

That 144Hz refresh rate is the reason to pick this over the pricier 4K model if you game. Motion is clean, FreeSync keeps tearing away, and the IPS panel has the wide viewing angles you want for shared screens or off-axis reference work. The 65W USB-C input carries video, data and laptop charging on one cable, and Dell keeps the full height/tilt/swivel/pivot stand plus a pair of built-in speakers.

The compromises are all about image ceiling rather than everyday usability. The panel is 8-bit and covers 99% sRGB with no published wide-gamut figure, so it is not the screen for color-critical print or video work. There is no HDR mode, brightness tops out around 350 nits, and contrast is a standard 1500:1 — perfectly fine in a lit room, unremarkable in the dark.

Connectivity is sensible rather than generous: one HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4 and the USB-C, which is enough for a laptop plus a console or desktop.

This is an excellent everyday all-rounder for a home office that doubles as a casual gaming setup, or for a student who wants one clean, USB-C-friendly screen. Creators who need DCI-P3 coverage, and enthusiasts chasing HDR or OLED contrast, should spend more — but for balanced work-and-play on a budget, the S2725DC hits the mark.

How the VS Score works — and what it can’t tell you

Every measurable spec is scored against the average of all the monitors we track: matching the class average scores 50, clearly beating it climbs towards 100, and each spec counts according to an editorial weight that reflects real-world impact — a battery-capacity gap moves the score far more than a colour-options list. The quality bars on the spec cards above show where this model sits inside the full range for its class, and the overall VS Score rolls every weighted result into one number.

Unknown values are never estimated. A spec this product doesn’t report simply drops out of its scoring — it isn’t penalised with a guess — but a thinner spec sheet does mean a score built on fewer data points, which is why completeness is disclosed under About this data.

Most importantly: a spec-sheet lead is not the same as a better product. Megapixels, gigahertz and benchmark points describe capacity, not experience — image processing, software optimisation, thermals, haptics and ergonomics decide how a device actually feels, and no table captures reliability or long-term support quality. Treat the VS Score as a structured summary of what can be measured, not a substitute for your own priorities.

About this data

  • Specifications are compiled from each manufacturer’s official spec sheet, cross-checked against trusted specification databases, and normalised into one schema so identical things are compared identically.
  • Specifications last verified July 26, 2026.
  • Data completeness: 36 of the 41 specs in this category are verified (88%). Anything we could not verify is shown as Unknown — never estimated — and is excluded from the score.
  • Prices and availability come from live retailer feeds via our shopping partners and refresh throughout the day; a missing price means no partner currently lists the product, not that it is discontinued.
  • Want the full picture? Our editorial guidelines explain how we research products, weight the scores and stay independent.
