Logitech MX Keys Mini: Specs, Price, Pros & Cons

Scissor keys over a membrane put the MX Keys Mini in a different group from most of the keyboards listed beside it here. It is an office keyboard, the compact member of Logitech's MX Keys family with the same typing feel as the full-size model, and its job is to move between computers more than to excite anyone about switches.

The layout is a 75% one: every key of the full-size MX Keys minus the number pad, in a flat board 20.97 mm thick. The keycaps are dished in the middle to guide the fingertips, and the travel is shallow, the way a good laptop's is.

Its top row is built for calls and messages. Dictation, emoji and microphone-mute keys sit among the media controls, and Logi Options+ can reassign them for anyone who never dictates or mutes a call. Connection runs over Bluetooth or Logitech's Bolt receiver, with three hosts remembered at once, and the backlight is white, driven by sensors that wake it for approaching hands and set its level from the room.

Rated battery life is several times that of a typical wireless keyboard, a figure that depends heavily on how much that backlight runs.

Its natural owner moves between macOS, Windows and iPadOS in one working day, or carries one keyboard between an office and home. The MX Keys S is the same idea with a numpad, for a desk that stays put. This one lists no cable mode, no USB passthrough, no rotary knob and no swappable switches, and full rollover is missing too, so games are outside what it was drawn for.

How this VS Score was computed

Score 31: each known spec is measured against the median of all keyboards (101 products), then weighted; 50 means level with that median. In classes of six or more, a value beyond the class’s 10th–90th percentile range counts as that limit, so one extreme product cannot set the scale. 44% of the scoreable weight could be used; unknown values, features not applicable to this class and proxies (battery capacity where a rated life exists) add or remove nothing.

Editor’s note

The MX Keys Mini takes the full-size MX Keys, removes the number pad and nothing else, and the result is one of the best keyboards you can put in a bag. At 296 by 132 millimeters and 506 grams it travels easily, while the scissor mechanism and spherically dished keycaps give it a typing feel closer to a good laptop than to a cheap compact board.

The multi-device handling is the reason to choose it over anything cheaper. Three devices pair at once over Bluetooth or Logitech's Bolt receiver, and the Easy-Switch row moves between them instantly, including across operating systems, so a Mac, a Windows machine and an iPad can share one keyboard without re-pairing.

Backlighting is white rather than RGB, and it is smarter than most: proximity sensors bring it up as your hands approach and an ambient sensor sets the level. That is also why battery figures vary so widely, from around ten days with the backlight working to roughly five months with it off. Charging is over USB-C.

The top row is where Logitech has been thinking about work rather than gaming. There are dedicated dictation, emoji and microphone-mute keys, all remappable through Logi Options+, which is useful if you spend your day in calls.

This is the right keyboard for a desk that serves several machines, or for anyone who types in more than one place. It is the wrong keyboard for gaming (the scissor switches, the wireless-only connection and the absence of N-key rollover all point away from that), and anyone who needs a number pad should take the full-size MX Keys S instead.

The bottom line

The Logitech MX Keys Mini earns a VS Score of 31, below the median of the 101 keyboards it is measured against (a score of 50 is level with that median).

Who it’s for
Someone who types on a Mac, a Windows PC and a tablet in the same day and wants one small board that hops between them at a keypress.
Who should look elsewhere
Gamers should look elsewhere: it has no cable mode, scissor keys and no full rollover. If you enter numbers all day, it is also too small.
The trade-off that matters
The backlight decides the charging habit. Leave it working and you charge every week or two, switch it off and the battery drops out of mind for months.
The main alternative
Logitech MX Keys S: the same typing feel with a number pad, for a desk that never moves.
